FAQs

Common questions, clear answers.

Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?
Both work. We welcome walk-ins during open hours (Mon–Sat, 9 AM – 2 PM), and you can also book ahead by phone or through the patient portal. Appointments get priority for the time slot, walk-ins are seen as soon as a provider is available.
What insurance do you accept?
We accept Medicare, Medicaid, and most major commercial insurance plans. Self-pay is welcome too. If you're unsure, call 205-536-6019 before your visit and we'll verify your coverage.
What should I bring to my first visit?
A photo ID, your insurance card, and a list of any medications you currently take (including over-the-counter and supplements). If you've had recent labs or imaging elsewhere, bring those records or have them faxed to us at 1-833-468-5559.
Do you treat children?
We can see older children for acute walk-in concerns (sore throats, ear infections, sports physicals, etc.). For ongoing pediatric primary care, we recommend a pediatrician. Call ahead if you're not sure whether we're the right fit.
Can you refill prescriptions?
Yes — for non-controlled medications and stable patients, we can manage refills as part of an ongoing care relationship. Controlled medications require an in-person visit and follow specific guidelines.
When should I go to the ER instead?
For chest pain, severe shortness of breath, signs of stroke, serious injuries, or any other true emergency, call 911 or go directly to the nearest emergency room. We're a clinic, not an emergency department.
Is online access secure?
Yes. The patient portal and healow app are protected with a username, password, and PIN of your choice, plus SSL encryption between your device and our servers. Your information stays private.
How do I sign up for the patient portal?
Ask the front desk during your visit and we'll send you a secure invitation by email. You'll set up your username and password from there. If you didn't get an invite or it expired, call us at 205-536-6019.
What is the healow app, and do I need it?
healow is a free smartphone companion to the patient portal. It adds reminders, trackers, and the ability to manage multiple family members in one place. You don't need it — the web portal works fine on its own — but most patients find the app more convenient day-to-day.
What's the practice code for the healow app?
CGFBED. Enter that in the healow app's practice search to find Riverchase Express Clinic.
I forgot my username or password. What do I do?
On the portal login page, click "Trouble Logging In?" to reset your password. If you've also forgotten your username, call us at 205-536-6019 and we'll help you back in.
Can I message my provider through the portal?
Yes — for non-urgent questions, prescription refill requests, or follow-ups. Provider responses typically come within one or two business days. Do not use messaging for emergencies — call 911 or come into the clinic instead.
